Seoane conceived culture as an ecosystem in which painting, printmaking, books, design, industry and historical memory could work together.

Luís Seoane was born in Buenos Aires in 1910, the son of Galician emigrants. His family returned to Galicia in 1916 and Seoane grew up in A Coruña and Santiago de Compostela, where he studied Law and participated in republican, Galicianist and artistic circles. Drawing, illustration and graphic design were already central to his work.

In 1936 he returned to Buenos Aires as an exile. There he became one of the great organisers of Galician culture abroad: he worked in journalism, painting, printmaking and publishing; took part in projects such as Nova and Botella al Mar; and designed hundreds of books. Buenos Aires became both a place of exile and a laboratory for an international Galician culture.

From the 1960s he intensified his collaboration with Isaac Díaz Pardo. Their relationship produced the Laboratorio de Formas and a programme seeking to reconnect avant-garde culture, industry, memory and identity: the new Sargadelos, the Museo Carlos Maside and other projects belong to this vision. Seoane died in A Coruña on 5 April 1979 while preparing a more permanent return to Galicia.
