Why Lorca, from Galicia
Lorca wrote six poems in Galician. They are few, but enough for his work to belong to this language too: Editorial Nós published them in Santiago de Compostela in 1935, and they have been part of Galician literature ever since. This project starts there.
The edition
Federico García Lorca · Obra literaria completa is the first major edition of the Mestre Mateo Digital Library. It is arranged in seven volumes:
- I. Poetry, 1918–1928 — Libro de poemas, Suites, Poema del cante jondo, Primeras canciones, Canciones and Romancero gitano.
- II. Poetry, 1929–1936 — Poeta en Nueva York, Tierra y luna, Diván del Tamarit, Llanto por Ignacio Sánchez Mejías, Seis poemas galegos, the sonnets, the odes and the uncollected poems.
- III–V. Theatre — early plays, farces, the “impossible theatre”, tragedies and unfinished work.
- VI. Prose.
- VII. Lectures, addresses and tributes.
Publication begins with Volume VII. The correspondence will appear later in a series of its own.
