Mestre Mateo Choir
A professional vocal project of the Mestre Mateo Cultural Association bringing together sacred music, heritage and contemporary creation.
Music · heritage · creation · A project promoted by the Association

The Mestre Mateo Choir is a professional vocal ensemble promoted by the Mestre Mateo Cultural Association. It was created as one of the Association’s long-term lines of artistic creation and cultural dissemination, with particular attention to sacred a cappella music, polyphony and the relationship between repertoire, architecture and historical memory.
A choir connected to place
The project is conceived to bring sacred repertoire into churches, monasteries, cathedrals and other historic spaces. Architecture is not merely a setting: it becomes part of the musical experience, the acoustics and the cultural reading of each programme.
The stonemasons gave the stones their form. We give them back their song.
Mestre Mateo Choir and Mestre Mateo’s stone choir
Mestre Mateo Choir
It is the contemporary professional vocal ensemble promoted by the Association. Its name creates a symbolic link with Mestre Mateo’s legacy, but it designates a present-day musical project.
Mestre Mateo’s stone choir
It is the monumental medieval stone choir raised in Santiago Cathedral by Mestre Mateo and his collaborators. It is a historical and symbolic reference for the present-day project, not the same entity.
